Atlantech wants to give a more accurate assessment of its patented product through a cost-benefit analysis, according to European standards (Guide to cost-benefit analysis of investment projects). The main objective is to evaluate the product not only from the economic point of view but also from the social impact on the market, analysing the positive and negative externalities. This analysis because the product is oriented to local public administration, to Smart Cities and to the citizens.
We tried to assign a value to the environmental impact, giving an economic value to CO2 produced using the Atlantech products and saved not using the concrete solutions. To reach an economic value on the amount of CO2 we estimated for each Atlantech product the weight of the corresponding concrete foundation (ex.: the Atlantech Lux model Heavy foundation replaces a plinth of 2,200 kg, and so on).
Estimation of positive and negative extrernalities:
|
Weight (in kg) of the concrete plinth replaced |
Weight (in kg) of Atlantech products |

For example, 10.000 Atlantech Lux Medium foundations save the emission of about 142 kg of CO2 (229-87) for each foundation, that multiplied for 10.000 give a total of 1.420.000 kg of CO2, only in the material cycle production, without evaluate the carbon saving in the installation phase using not invasive motor means and to the 75% reduced installation time.
The second report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change give us some estimation about the damages from carbon emissions and the consequent economic social cost (SCC, social cost of carbon). The estimates range from a value of $ 10 to a value of $ 350 per ton of carbon due to the many assumptions underlying the simulations (climate sensitivity, response times, treatment of risk, the possible catastrophic losses, interest rates , etc.).
The production of concrete has at least from 5% to 8% of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere every year, producing an average of about 0.5 tons of CO2 per m3 of concrete.
Smart Cities and Communities. The Atlantech Lux System will be useful for the installation of the future smart lighting poles.
